Get Involved in the Pre-Apprenticeship Program

Utah’s historically low unemployment rate and strong economic growth mean that certain industries need workforce development support to identify and train under-employed candidates.

The construction industry is a cornerstone of infrastructure expansion and economic development in Salt Lake County, driving demand for skilled labor. Salt Lake County Economic Development’s workforce development program fills County-specific gaps not met by other workforce providers.

Pre-Apprenticeship Training

Utah Women in Trades runs a 120-hour pre-apprenticeship with SLCo Economic Development and the Utah Building Trades Council, helping adults build math, language, and hands-on skills for careers in plumbing, pipefitting, HVAC, electrical, ironwork, and more in the construction trades.

Participant Testimonial

"When I started my Pre-Apprenticeship, I was shy and uncertain, especially being separated from my kids. My main goals were simple: to get them back and secure a spot in the trades.

Welding has been transformative. It's a form of meditation, where I feel calm and focused like never before. I've also found strength in the sisterhood of women from all walks of life, supporting each other.

The Utah Women in Trades program has been a guiding force, helping me build a future not just for my kids, but for myself. It's about showing them that their mom can be happy and successful."
