Board of Health
The Salt Lake County Board of Health sets public health policy for the county and may adopt and enforce public health rules, regulations, and standards necessary to implement the public health policies.
Standards and regulations adopted by the Board of Health supersede existing local standards, regulations, and ordinances.
The Board consists of 15 members appointed by the Salt Lake County Mayor (upon consent from the Salt Lake County Council) who represent a diverse cross-section of the county. The Board must include:
- a physician or surgeon
- a dentist
- a licensed health care professional
- a non-health-care licensed professional
- a representative of a business community regulated by the department
- a member of the county council
- a mayor of a municipality in the county
- two public representatives not connected with the regulated business community
Regular meetings are the 1st Thursday of each month (there is generally no meeting in January or July) from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m., though the Board may meet additionally, if necessary.
