Tax Exemptions -- Charitable, Religious, or Educational
Under Article XIII of the Utah Constitution, property owned by a nonprofit organization and used exclusively for charitable, religious, or educational purposes may be exempt from property tax. The Board of Equalization reviews exemption eligibility based on an application submitted by the property owner. Applications should be submitted to the Auditor's Office through the Tax Exemptions Portal. If the Board grants the exemption, the property owner is then required to file an annual statement to confirm the property's continued eligibility. (This process does not apply to the primary residential exemption. For questions regarding that exemption, please contact the Assessor's Office at 385-468-8000).
